The Haston Public Library’s Summer Reading Program, “Dig Into Reading,” took place from July 8 to August 17.

All participants received brightly colored reading logs in which to keep track of their books, as well as bookmarks, activity pages and certificates of achievement.

Children who were not yet reading on their own also joined in the fun, keeping a log of the books read to them by parents, grandparents and siblings.

Highlights of the Summer Reading Program included craft activities every Monday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and Lego Club on Wednesdays from 2:00-3:00 p.m. On Craft Days children chose from a number of simple, self-guided crafts in which they followed written directions to accomplish fun creations. Librarian Rosemary Mackenzie was on hand if help was needed. On Lego Days boys and girls were let loose with the library’s large collection of Legos to let their imaginations run wild. Each child’s creation was put on display in the Children’s Library for a week following each session.

A special event of the Summer Reading Program was a performance by the hilarious Alex the Jester on Wednesday, July 17.
